bean overflow in a reef ready tank?

I have looked through the massive overfolw thread and could not find my specific situation. I have a 270 gallon reef ready tank - center overflow with 4 holes.
Two 1 1/2" and two 1" bulkheads. I understand the bean system, I just have a few questions.

Do I still need to put the elbows on the top of the stand pipes?
Because the stand pipes are inside the overflow, I will have to put the valve on siphon pipe where it exits under the tank, anyone see an issue with this?

anybody that has done this setup care to share any info? I really need this to be quiet this time.
