Question HOB refug/skimmer vs HOB skimmer

Hi there I have a 12g Current aquapod that I have been told to put either a HOB dual refuge/skimmer on or a HOB skimmer to help reduce nitrates. Im trying to figure out which set up would be more efficient and cost-effective in the long run. The back dimensions of the tank are 18"Lx12"H and its 3" between the false wall in the back to the aquarium back.

On a 12g tank, if you have the time, I would reccomend strictly a hob fuge and water changes.(2-3g a week)
If you are set on a skimmer I would advice against a skimmer/fuge one piece combo.
If you need HOB skimmer reccomendations I would look to
-Eshopps
-Tunze Nano
-Bubble Magus
-ATB Multi

I would agree that the Fuge is the way to go and not do a comb unit if you decide to use both. I have a ecosystem 40 for a refuge and it has worked great on a previous system and I am using it again on my new 40g. I have also use the pro model that has the skimmer built in. It did work and pull skim from the tank but was not the most efficient. I would recommend another HOB skimmer that was not listed which is the Aqua MAxx HOB-1. Although with the 12 g it might be to cumbersome to consider. All in all I would just go with the refuge and water changes.

Haha, you are in the wrong hobby for deals.
I would buy from here, there are routinely aquafuge's on sale and others.
If new, they will be ~ the same price at all the R.C. sponsors that carry them.

Ya I know what your talking about, before the military I had a 200g with a 75g sump lol. Its just nice to find one at a reasonable price as opposed to the LFS which is usually an arm and a leg lol
