2 tunze 6105 efficient on a 7ft 400 gallon tank

I have a 400 gallon 360 viewing gallon tank 84 x 36 x30

the overflow is in the middle which is 12.5 x 14.. i plan on putting one of these pumps on each side of the over flow.. so each pump would be pushing about a 36 x 36 area on each side(left and right side of tank).... will these be good enough or should i go with the next tunze pump in size..? I have read that these push tons of water in a 6ft but not sure on the width...

also, do you all think there will be enough flow that the front and back of my overflow box will get movement? or should I add a smaller tunze pump on each side of those as well (front and back)?

(i have two modded mjs 1200's on each side working great, but they look horrible and not making enough wave action.. also too much of a stream flow)
thanx guys

Cool setup.

I assume since you have that center overflow vortechs are out of the question. Two mp60wes would rock that tank.

You might consider using the tunzes to create a gyre flow setup.

How are the two acanthurus handling each other? You probably know but down the road you might have to choose on or they will do it for you. Hopefully not!

ya, i wish i could use the vortechs, they look so much better, all the acan fish were fine... untill my skimmer went nuts and the extra sludge all fell back into my tank.. killed the powder blue and brown, orange shoulder as well, sux! i saved the naso and achillies... ill be adding another orange shoulder for sure.. may hold off on the powder blue and brown.. my wife likes them but no need, lol...

whats gyre flow?

these are old pix of the setup cant wait till these thing has some nice corals in it!

aww hell that is a real bummer );

a gyre is when you get the water circulating around in one direction. Then get it to spin the other way.

I'm not sure if it would work. Might test it with the sureflows first. Mount them on the front and back of the overflows. In this very crude image the color indicates which pumps are on at a given time. Run each set of pumps for say 10 minutes each and see if you can get the entire body of water circulating in one direction and then swap the set of pumps that are on.

Sweet tank! I just picked up a 96" x 24" x 48"T 1.25" acrylic tank with a center overflow too. I bought 2 resun 15000 ($192 shipped) and going to mount one on each side of the overflow. They are suppose to push almost 4,000 gph.

I talked to tunze at Rap. The person there said the tunze cover 2 feet in width at the base. I have a 72 inches long tank. Told him it has 90% sps. He said 2 is more than enough. He also suggest to put them in the back wall, pointing toward the front 2/3 of the length from each side, so that the stream would cross like an X. That is the most efficient way to setup tunze.

Tunze is a sponsor on RC, send them a question on their forum, the are very good at getting back.

Btw, nice tank!

Personally I would get the next size up, you can change the flow rate easily so you won't have to have them blast on high power constantly but can still adjust the flow to how you want it. Roger at Tunze is awesome, his experience and unbelievable customer service has kept me happy.

The MJ's are nothing like the Tunze, the difference is night and day. Sweet tank!

okay.. well.. would I get away with 2 mp40's one on each side?

i do like them better as far as design.... can i just make a 45 degree elbow, seal it in the overflow box and boom, there is my waterproof mp40

thing with the tunze is you can angle them to get the right flow. i know vortech is a great product but i hear ppl say this is a drawback. i cant speak from experience tho, ive never used them.
i use tunze and can agree that roger is awesome
corey
