Its 100% yes LEDs grow and sustain coral. As to what type to use, you can build a DIY or purchase a plug and play like the AI Blues. There are others out there that are proven also.

No question that they can. Just have to make sure you choose what's right for what you need. On my reef I went with a maxspect led fixture and have coral growing. Next will be DIY.

My corals are growing like weeds. Spending a fortune in calcium and alkalinity supplements for my SPS's now. Not complaining, loving it. I run LED's on my 210.

I only have been running LEDS since Nov 3rd. But since changing over from my halide setup I had, I can say that the LEDS seem to be more benefiting in wattage, no bulb changes and the colors out of my corals are out of this world. I am currently housing a S. Gigantea and a H. Mag anemone's along with a very mixed reef and all is doing exceptional. Many people are running LEDS in my club and have been for over a year already, so def. YES and most will do better. The biggest mistake with people is the wattage of LEDS they get, you cannot run 1W leds or less and figure they will work good. Most commercial built fixtures are 3W LEDS driven at 2w's and everyone that is building DIY LED cree fixtures are not running them at full 3watts but instead most are at 50% power or a little more. Optics also can do wonders but are spotty

Did you really just ask that? It's 2011 not 2001

My club runs DIY on all the large tanks as its a no brainer & if your like me paying a fortune for energy its the only way!

3watt Crees are the ticket. Had a club meet at one of the zeo heads this weekend & man was that acro growing. Oh this guy replaced 4-400 watt halides & doubled his par & removed a chiller! Par meter is the only way you to go you will burn it up without.

I'm a firm believer in LEDs

This is my tank which has been under LEDs for just about a year now. Stock JBJ hood LEDs.
