N Wennerae Questions

I am interested in keeping an N Wennerae.

I have some questions

1. Where can i get them? i found one on TBS but 50 + shipping is expensive...
2. What color are they usually?
3. How often do i have to feed them?
4. Can i feed them just regular CUC? (hermit crabs, snails)
5. Do i need an underground PVC network?

50 + shipping is pretty fair. After shipping I paid over 100$ for my GT from bluezoo.

TBS is also top quality as far as his business. You won't have any issues with him if something DOES go wrong.

Coloration is Green and Red, apparently based on the amount of light they get. If you have a brightly lit reef tank they will eventually go bright green is my understanding.

I feed my Ternatensis every other day to every 3 days usually. Though there have been longer and shorter times. Longer I go, the more CUC he kills of course.

Mine doesn't eat hermits, he DOES love trochus and astrea snails though. He won't touch turbo snails, though it could be their size.

No, they will dig their own burrow. Make sure you provide ample rock and sand for them though.

Keep your params stable like you would on any reef tank. There is a stick about molting you can read in this forum.

I never feed pellets. Go for a variety of frozen foods if possible. Silversides, krill, shrimp, clams, etc. It'll be more rewarding if you hand-feed anyway, as it will associate you with dinnertime.

HAND FEED? do you not get hurt?
or do you mean tongs when you say hand-feed.

How big to wennerae get? Roy's List says 80mm max, but how long does it take for it to get that big?

Hand feed- as in with tongs or a skewer. Let's not become the guy that tries to feed his mantis from his fingers, k?
They grow over a course of molts-- you know, cause the molts are HOW they grow. So, it would take a while for them to get full grown, considering they slow down with the molts over time... My two cents. Honestly, they stay small... so there's no need to worry about size.

I have never witnessed my mantis eating any sort of pellets, flake or otherwise processed food. Though he does associate it being in the water with his dinner time of krill or fiddlers.

1) Ask your LFS if they any first or or local reef club. They hitchhike in a lot of liverock shipments. Most people just throw them away or try to kill them. They are consider as pest by most.

2) Depends on your lighting. I have 3 of them and they are all different colors.
a) Lime Green
b)- Dark Solid Green
c)- Red/Green

3)Every other day. Small piece's of shrimp etc. When I feed my Reef Tank Rods' Food I take the larger chunks and give to them. 1 fiddler crab a week.

4) Yes, but this will get expensive after a while. Luckliy for me. I pretty much have a unlimited supply of Nassarius Snails.

5)Not for this species. They will most likely burrow a whole into a rock as its home. With only one way in and out. And they will close the door at night or when they are ready to molt.
