sps question
Hey all some questions. I just got some new corals and rock f I have some questions. I've had monti caps before and luckily I'm already getting PE from them and its only been an hour. This hydrophora (sp) seems like its spitting its gutts out like mushrooms do. I thought sps like high flow and high light. My system is a 20g long with 2 koralia 425 nano's and a aqueon 20 filter for movement. I placed the sps under the filter water flow and a power head hitting them from both sides. Light should be good cause its a 150w viper clamp on. Just ordered a new 14k phoenix bulb which should be in 12/23. Parameters are good. Here are some pics as well.

Some SPS put out slime as a defense mechanism. Some eject their zooxanthelae. Hard to tell from the pic. It is often a good idea to put the SPS on the substrate when you first get them, then slowly move them up closer to the light over several weeks to acclimate them.

How long ago did you place the Hydno? If it is newly placed and you had your hands on it in order to position it then I'd say give it some time. If on the other hand you placed it yesterday, and it is just now sliming then you have something in your system with which it's not happy and even though you think your "parameters are good" the coral is telling you something is not so step one would be to double and triple check all your parameters and double check all your tests and test equipment.
I hope you'll keep us informed so we can all learn from your experience! Joe |
