azure damsel vs blenny

I have a 14gallon biocube and currently have a azure damsel. I bought him to see if he would last in my tank and he seems to be doing pretty well these last 5 days. He's about an inch long at most and hides ALOT. Not sure if he is just always scared like that or still not sure of his new home.

Well I saw a Blenny at my LFS the other day and was really close to getting him, but was worried about putting him in with a Damsel, although I heard that the Azure species is one of the less aggressive ones. The blenny was about 3" in length.

Do you think adding a blenny of this size would be okay with the small damsel? I'm hoping its size plus the damsel's insecurity is enough to have them compatible.

The blenny should be fine but I would wait at least 2 weeks between new fish additions, just to let the biological filter catch up to the ammonia load (especially in a nano). I assume you're checking ammonia and nitrate?

I would have to say... No way
sorry.. too small of a tank for 2.. what kind of blenny? not that it matters.. 3in is too big for a 14g.. personally.. I would even bring back the Damsel.. as he is going to be cramped as he grows (he may be already) with that size tank IMO.. I would do a clown goby Maaaybe two clown gobies.. but thats it.....

Agree: 50 gallon for an azure and blenny, maybe, nicer to have 100g.
OTOH look up "high fin redstriped goby", "clown goby," ---they'd go with a 14 pretty happily.

I'm not even sure what exact species is it... I see 14gallon tanks with pairs of clown fishes sometimes even with damsels and firefish in them... how does this work out for those tanks?

I want to get rid of the damsel eventually unless i know he is peaceful, but there would only be one way to find out huh

I would like to have a firefish, one clown, and blenny.. but it prob be overstocked blah

I can't imagine the is ever good in those situations

yes.. it def would be overstocked.. its overstocked now..
like I said (and Sk8r) a clown goby would be the best fit for a 14g. I have 2 clown gobies.. a yellow and a green.. and I love them both LOTS! they both have lots of personality and are quite fun to watch. My yellow clown goby would actually probably do better in a 14g than my 55g.. he tends to hide more than he does "come out to play" but I enjoy him much when he does venture around...
I have a few different gobies and blenny species in my tank and I'd have to say that the clown gobies are the only 2 I have that are "small" I have a starry blenny that started out at about 1/2in long and is now reaching close to 4in!!! he's a beast lol and can be aggressive at times too.. as are the other blennies in my tank .. in a smaller space it just gets that much worse
can you possibly look into getting a larger tank for yourself?? that would be your best bet & gives you that many more options when it comes to stocking...
or.. have you thought of going with a delicate invert dominant tank?? you can still get a goby.. plus maybe some pom pom crabs, porcelain crabs, sexy shrimp, etc ... this is actually my next tank plan... or maybe even turn it into a pistol shrimp tank? or mantis shrimp?
Just some ideas for you

lol no, getting a bigger tank is definitely out of the question.... don't gobies require a lot of sand for them to bury in? I think I have about 13lbs of live rock so more than half my sand is covered with rocks... i might take out some rocks and leave maybe about 10lbs... would that be enough?

I'm guessing I have about 10 gallon of actual water.... but that's just a random guess =/

not all gobies are sand dwellers
the yellow clown goby and green clown goby are def not sand dwellers..
here is a link to one of my fav sites with fish info
http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/a...es.cfm?c=15+31
the high fin redstripe goby that Sk8r suggested is also in there

I would agree with going with some clown gobies. I have a yellow clown goby and he is a neat little fish but would probably be better in a smaller tank than my 75g since he is so small but he is always out and about.

What kind of blenny? There are many types and they differ in size quite a bit. I would think it is safe, especially if the azure is a juvenile (they are more friendly when young). I agree that you should wait a few weeks though and when you do, watch the damsel and be prepared to remove it or the blenny if you have to.
