Ecosmart Vortech MP10

Hi everyone. Hope you're having a wonderful holiday. I was thinking of picking up an Ecosmart Vortech MP10 pump for my 29 gallon with some of my Xmas money. I was wondering if any of you had experience with this pump, particularly in a tank of my size. Please let me know. Thanks

I've got one in my 14 Biocube and I love it. I run mine at only 20 or 30% because any higher it blows all my corals around You'll be glad you got one.

Thanks for the reply, pyro. Just out of curiosity, what setting do you usually run your vortech in?

I've got it on reef crest mode. changes up the water flow randomly and the week i switched to the MP10 i could tell that my corals were way happier.

The only downside to the MP10 is the noise. They do not run a quiet as the fully submersible pumps.

The noise isn't and I run two mp40. Can't hear them over the flow of the sump and skimmer

Does this thing replace a wavemaker and multiple powerheads?

You could use it as a wave maker. It does have that capability. I have two on a 65 breeder. They are great little pumps. Im not too fond of the 40's though. A bit too loud for me.

The noise is the biggest downside to these pumps, ecotech needs to revamp their wetsides to illuminate the noise.

Everyone must have some awfull quiet tanks to be complaining about the noise coming from their vortechs, imo these are not noticeable over any other noise that's in the room. Running a mp10 now looking for 2 mp40's to go onto my DT so +1 for the vortech from me!

I have one on my 29g biocube, and think it is great. I run mine at 50% reefcrest during the day, then at 50% lagoon at night (I have it wirelessly run by my Apex controller).

After feeding, I'll run it for 30 minutes in nutrient transport mode to keep uneaten food suspended to be filtered out.

However, besides the occasional waterfall noise from the flow into the filter floss, the MP10 is the loudest part of my tank. That's partially why I run lagoon mode at night (not as much ramping up and down compared to reefcrest).

You cannot even hear the noise of my MP40 unless you turn off everything in the room and sit in perfect silence, trying to listen for it. If it is making noise, most likely it is a vibration noise due to not being aligned correctly, or your pin spacer is set wrong.

I agree about the noise, when mine are ramping up, I hear them quite well over a Reeflo Snapper and an Octo Super Reef 3000....

If you want silent, keep looking. I have a pair of Tunze Nano's, and they are virtually silent.

I love mine. I've had one in my 55 long for several months, and just added a second (Christmas gift from the wife!). They can be a bit louder as their motor isn't muffled by water, but my overflow to the sump is louder so it's not a concern for me.

Everything in the tank seems to love reef crest mode (yellow mode), but I'll occasionally use the nutrient export mode (pink) to pick up any detritus on the sand bed and get it into the water where it can be sent down to the skimmer and fuge.

In short, if I were setting up another tank tomorrow, they would be part of my start-up equipment for sure. Good luck
