Are you putting crushed coral in your DT? You may want to look into that. I am still fairly new to the hobby, but I was advised against crushed coral as well as cheap sand(Home Depot/Lowes playsand).

Also, those to charts are a great resource, but the fish purchase thread(one of the sticky's here in the New to Hobby forum) is another great resource.

Tropic Eden Reef Flakes. Premium Aquatics carries it. It is a heavier sand and very white. I have Reef Flakes in my display. The sand just sits on the bottom no problems.

Also, all the big brand names carry some form of a heavier grade aragonite sand, I just chose Tropic Eden and have had success with it.

Don't know if you would consider gobies at all. I have a pair of Two Lined (Railway) Sleeper Gobies and a single Yellow Headed Sleeper goby in my 180 and the sand is spotless. My skimmer in addition to the gobies sifting my sand endlessly do a great job keeping it clean. I have not vacuumed my sand once since I got them in a year and there is no detritus to be found on the sand bed. Note they do sometimes pick up sand and raise in the water column a few inches before sifting it and this can put sand on corals and live rock if it's low enough in the tank. My tank is FOWLR so I really don't care but I can see how this could be a problem. I can watch them for hours on end too. If you do consider gobies for your 90 I would either go with a mated pair or just a single but not two separate gobies in a 90. I do NO sand maintenance and have no snails or CUC in my tank. Also they are very easy to pair up if you can find two of the same species at the same time to put in your QT and then to your DT at the same time. I'd say your chances of them getting along and hanging out together are about 75%. i put my railway sleeper's together both from Live Aquaria in the same shipment. They even sleep in the same cave together.

Nick

Yeah if I do go with sand ill forsure get a gobie they r really cool im going to have to read up on them see if theres one that could live in a 20g because my sand gets bad I dont have a skimmer for that one im still new at this but in 8 mouths things have been going well ive only got a cleanup crew and 2 false clowns with coral in the 20g so I might be able to put one more fish in there

I'd start with fish that serve a purpose in the reef then expand from there.

A few to consider...

Ctenochaetus (Bristletooth) Tangs - these tangs are generally smaller, don't require as much swimming room and in general are less aggressive. I have a Chevron Tang, he does an amazing job keeping the sand clean.

Radiant Wrasse - these are good looking fish that are known for their tendency to eat montipora eating nudibranches. They also are said to prey on pyramidellid snails (clam pest) and have been known to clean fish. (I don't own one yet, I am hoping to pick one up in the future).

Halichoeres cosmetus - Another wrasse, this one is considered (from what I have read) to be one of the best options for controlling acropora eating flat worms. (I don't own this one either).

I feel it's nice to start off with fish like these right off the bat rather than trying to squeeze one of these in when you are fully stocked and develop an issue.

Whatever you do, ALWAYS quarantine! An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure... that statement will really ring true to you if you ever have the misfortune of getting ich (just as one example, there are others) in a fully stocked reef tank.

Not sure a 20 would be enough room for a sleeper goby at least long term. A 55 yeah a 40 breeder, maybe...

I had a diamond goby in a 29 gallon cube and he was very happy. Also made my sand look more natural
