RO/DI unit siphon?
I have a BRS 5stage RO/DI unit. It has a booster pump on the inlet and then the supplied manual shutoff valve before the water enters the unit. The outputs are just open to the air. Sometimes when I shut off the unit it partially drains one or some of the canisters. It seems to do it differently each time (not always the same amount or from the same canister) and sometimes it doesnt do it at all and leaves them all full. When it drains them it takes a while for it to get all the air out of the system again the next time I run it. unfortunately I havent been able to track the differences to different shutdown procedure or anything, and I havent found any leaks. Has anyone experienced this or know how to fix it? I want the canisters to just stay full.

The easy solution is to route the exits higher than the unit. Have you discussed this with BRS? They actually have excellent customer service.

I have talked to BRS about this.. The response I got was "ya that happens sometimes" though for the most part I agree with you about their customer service. Its also weird that I didnt have the issue until recently (I have had the unit for a few months now) which led me to believe there was a leak of some sort. Ill try raising the hoses, but it seems that most people mount the units on their wall and their exits would tend to be below the unit..

In order to drain like that, air has to enter the front end of the unit, if there was an air opening anywhere else, it would leak when the unit is on. I have had this issue but I do know that raising the outlet should stop it. Kind of weird, I wonder too if the booster pump is allowing air in, but that should also leak when on.
