Hitting the reset button

so i have a 90 gal tank. It has been up and running for about 5 years. have been fighting it the whole time.... im sick of it. wanting to start over. I have about 150 pounds of old live rock from my brothers old tank that was cleaned and dried out. I want to make it live agin so placed in a bin and added salt water. plan on cooking 1/2 of my live rock with the old dried out live rock. will this be a problem?

any tips on how to do this?
is it ok to use water change water durring the cooking process?
