BRS filter socks

Do I want 200 micron "mesh" or do I want 200 micron "felt"?? I've bought from them before, but now I don't know which of my hodgepodge of socks is the one I got from BRS.

The way my sump is set up, a stiffer material would be best, as my socks have to stand on their own.

?

I prefer felt. If you want it to stand on it's own, use felt. On the BRS website you can look up your previous orders to see what you ordered last time..

Felt is much thicker than the mesh. If you think about a green fish net, that kind of material is mesh.

I have about ten of both kinds. Felt clogs fast but is great for polishing the water. I prefer the mesh for normal usage but if I do any tank maintenance I run the felt to reduce any fines in the water. HTH

I have felt 100 micron and they really catch a lot of crud. They tend to clog in about three days. I keep three that a rotate in and out. When I have two that are dirty, I throw them in the wash.

I just got the felt sock for a sump filter and think they do a good job and they look like they should hold up good.

GPB, do you just throw the filter sock in the washing machine? I wash mine in the sink by hand, and that takes alot of time. That would be a real time saver.

i machine wash, hot water with about a cup of bleach. just let it dry real good for a couple of days or out in the sun. once completely dry, any residual bleach after it comes out of the washer will be gone.
