I have never kept a leather but I have read that they do that every so often and that they will also shed before inflating again.

How long have you had it? Yellow leathers are a bit trickier to keep but if it's just retracted the the polyps, that's a normal habit. I have a regular long polyp Toadstool & it retracts it's polyps several timeas a day & sometimes for weeks at a time before it sheds the top layer, as long as yours keeps it's color & does not get "mushy" to the touch, I wouldn't worry.

Don't worry. They are hardier than you think. 20 Nitrate will not kill it. Just keep up on weekly WC's and let it be, it'll come around soon. Mine was shriveled once for
3 days and then back to normal.
