Why is my tank hot?
What the heck is going on?
Last night I touched the tank (having developed the habit - TY, RC!) and noticed it was warmer than it should be. 85 degrees F. I pulled out the heater and it wasn't on. I left it unplugged just in case. I considered adding cold water, and decided to just let it cool down on it's own. 24 hours later, the tank has not come down in temp at all. What gives? I have no new equipment, and nothing has changed as far as the room the tank resides in. It is not getting direct sunlight. Room is 72 degrees, tank is 85 degrees. I have 2 thermometers and both agree. There is no reason I can think of for this. Can a malfunctioning powerhead heat water up? I haven't noticed any strange noises. Ideas?

softie,
See if you can get your hands on an amprobe. It is a clamp on electric meter that measures the amount of electricity something uses. My best guess is that something in your tank is going bad and using more electricity than it should. All the excess simply converts to heat energy in your tank. Thanks Mike

Sounds like a bad punp to me as well.
You could try cleaning them and see if that helps

Not having an amprobe, I felt each of the pumps/powerheads. The one on my backpac fuge kinda felt like maybe it was a tic warmer than the water, but I couldn't be sure. I unplugged just that one for the night and this morning my tank is almost back down to normal. Appreciate the help!
