Lost my Goniopora
Had a 3in Goniopora for two weeks before the skim started to melt away. I think a nitrate spike did him in. I knew these were temperamental but has anyone been successful at keeping these?

Nope. I tried to rescue one from another reefers tank. I put it in random medium to high flow high in the tank an it seemed to do fine for about 1-1/2 months. Then its tissue started to receed and then peel from the skeleton. I moved it to another tank with T5 lighting but it was too far gone IMO.

Gave up on 'Goni' 20 years ago. From what I'm told there are only 1 or 2 types that seem to survive...
I think they are captive raised ORA, and only the red, & red with yellow.

Ive had the red one from ora for about a year now and it is very healthy and resilient. They are very expensive (IMO). For about a 1.5 inch ball (skeleton) it runs $100. It is worth it in my opinion though if it can survive long term. Beautiful coral.

The only one that I would ever get again (( made of getting wild ones 15+ years ago )), would be the ORA red ones.
Have had mine for about a year now, top down, ![]() From the side (( the picture was originally for the goby/shrimp pair )) ![]()

I can tell you that the green ones from ORA are good too...at least for me. I happend to win one from a raffle at MACNA 2010 and it is still alive and well in my tank. ![]()

I have had a had a tan one with 2 heads for 18 months. The first few months it looked pretty rough, but for the past year it has done very well.
Now I just need to figure out how to get my sand as clean as Toddrtex.
