Reef Octopus SRO 1000 problems

I have the above skimmer installed in a 30G reef tank with a 30G sump, and at a water depth of 5.75 inches. The problem is that the skimmer is producing about a cup full of clear skimmate everyday. The tank is about 3 months old, with a pair of clownfish, a pair of Bangaii Cardinals, and a few zoanthids, so minimal bioload. I have not glued anything recently or introduced any chemicals, and I want to stress that it is not overflowing. It just takes about a full day to produce this much waste. One other thing that I noticed is that when I turn the gate valve fully closed I can make the skimmer overflow (to skim extremely wet), however when I turn the gate valve fully closed (to skim extremely dry) I don't seem to be able to get it to skim dry, it still produces a full cup every day. Could there be something wrong with the gate valve, I just can't seem to control the internal water level. I also have a SRO 3000 on another tank, and with that gate valve I can really control the water level. If any one has any ideas please advise. Thanks.

I would decrease the water level the skimmer is sitting in to about 5". When I was running the 1000 I believe I had it sitting at about 4 3/4", if I went lower it would either skim too wet or overflow.

Throw some egg crate under it. That should help you get it up without remaking your sump.
