Well I just order a few more things for my tank, changing my filter from a X2 HOB to a canister rated for a 100 gallon tank...water turn over will be slightly under twice my volume...thus keeping it very clean...hopefully. I also purchased a dual media reactor which i will have GFO and carbon running this will be feed through a 264 gph pump. I will also be doing a DIY KALK drip using a toms dosing pump and a 1 gallon milk jug....I'm going to run it for 12 hours a day after the lights go out.
I am still looking for a calcium reactor or a great cheap diy calcium reactor....if anyone has anything on this please let me know. Last edited by lsaucedo; 02/11/2012 at 01:14 AM. |

I'd keep an eye on that canister filter. Depending on the media you have in there, it can become a detritus trap/ nitrate factory.

I used to run a Fluval 405 back when I just started. I got tired of cleaning it weekly thats why I got rid of it and added more powerheads. Flow increased to keep the detritus from accumulating and the skimmer took care of things.

I had a RENA X2 power filter and ouch my nitrates shot through the rough so I got rid of it and got a larger skimmer with more water flow pumps as well.

i hate the canister filters... even for fresh water set ups. always seen to be a pain to keep clean and change out media. Would recommend getting a skimmer to do it job and get rid of it.

The paper background I have on the tank is an ocean...water back ground...since all my items are HOB's I had to put something back there to hide the items when looking into the tank. |

New canister filer installed as of yesterday...i installed bioballs (old fashion...not recommended) but wanted to see how it does with multi-layer media going from course to fine....Im going to see how this setup works out...then adjust as needed.
Today, I installed my single chamber dual media reactor. running PhosGuard and Carbon. This should knock not my phos and get rid of my red slim that i am starting to get. Updates to come. |
