Pumps that Run Cool
Hiya
My Mag 7 is not only ungodly loud but it dumps a good deal of heat into the tank. I'm looking at the Ehiem 1260 and the Quiet One 3000 pumps as replacements. The tank is only 35 gallons and I jsut want something quiet and cool running for the return pump. Does anyone ave thoughts or suggestions? |

You can't even hear my Eheim 1260 and my 1260 was dead silent as well. All I hear is the trickle from the water going down the pipes.

Ehiems are very quiet. For internal pumps look at the wattage rating, that will equal the amount of heat it will generate (100 watt pump = 100 watt heater)

I was figuring as much nanojg. In also betting that my Mag 7 is causeing more heat than normal and I doubt its running smoothly. Stressed motor and friction on the impeller mean hotter running temp.
Im leaning toward to Ehiem 1260 now. Anyone want to point me someplace else? |

If heat is your main concern there is not that much difference in wattage between the two Mag7 - 70w and Ehiem 1260 - 65w. I believe the Water Blaster 3000 comes in around 37w and the Tunze Silence around 42w. Out of all, I've only had a Mag 7 in my tank so I can't speak to the reliability or noise (seems to be hit or miss with the Tunze), of any of the other 3. When I started up the old Mag 7 after a few years it ran rough for me as well, even after replacing the impeller. Switched to a Sicce Syncra Silent. Silent it's not, but it does run a bit more efficient.

I would also recommend the Eheim, they're quiet and they have a proven track record for reliability.
