RO filter

I have a 3 stage ro filter. The last chamber which has the carbon in it only fills up half way or so with water. I took the chamber off one time just to investigate it. Im not sure if it filled up all the way before or not. It doesnt seem right not to be filling all the way up to me. Any suggestions?

I'd like to see a pic of the unit. Should be stage ons-sediment, stage two-carbon block, stage three-RO membrane. If you have an extra carbon at the end for drinking water, ok, but show that first.

Im not sure how to upload pics. U are probably right. Its like a fine sand. Some of which is turning gold color. I was told when its all gold it needs to be replaced. Water still goes through ok but just doesnt make sense why their is two inches or so of air at the top

That's a DI canister. Not a carbon filter. Mine has some air in it to sometimes. Do you have a TDS meter? It's better for knowing when the DI needs changed. The color on the outside could change but the inside still be good, but you wouldn't know.

TDS meter? total disolved solids? Where would you get one? how much would it cost? And what exactly does it tell you?

You test the water for TDS. I check incoming, after membrane and after DI unit. You use the incoming and the after membrane to check the membrane and after the DI checks the DI canister.

Here's some, but pretty much everybody carries them.
