Cyano and a new tank.

I am in the middle of a 150g build and have the opportunity to get some live rock possibly for free. The catch is, it is covered in cyano. My question is: If I get the rock and clean it as best I can before putting it in the tank, will I have to worry about having introduced it? I just finished adding the water (RO/DI) and reef salt 2 days ago so I don't think it would have anything to eat once in the tank? After cycling, the CUC would finish it off?

It's already in your tank and in every body of water on earth. CLick the blue number undre my avatar and read the blog entry under Algae, about halfway through it---cyano, what it is, what to do to get rid of it. It's one of the easiest to cure of all the tank nuisances.

Consider acid washing all the rock then getting some quality rock to seed. This way there's no struggling at the start and you get to start off on the right path

I would think cooking the rock in the dark for a week or so would kill it, just like the lights out for 3 days on a set up tank. Throw it in a brute with a lid on it and let it cook.

I'm thinking that with nothing in the tank for if to consume it won't be a problem anyway. Is that correct? I have quite a bit of DIY rock that I'm wanting to seed with this rock. I just didn't want to be in a battle from the start. Everything I've read about it says to remove it manually and then basically starve it to death.
