20g Long tank ideas..what should i do?

I have a 75g display tank that will be fish softies and some LPS with a 29g sump/refuge.

I purchased a 20g long tank for the sump (but it wasn't tall enough) so its extra and I want to do something interesting with it. Anyone have any ideas?

You could set up another tank and dedicate it strictly to zoanthids. You wouldn't really need a skimmer or a sump, just a couple PH's for circulation and maybe a HOB filter to run some carbon/GFO in. Lighting shouldn't be a problem. You can get one of those Hagen Glo T5 fixtures for fairly cheap. Just a thought.

^ I like the zoa garden idea. Actually that is what I am slowly turning my frag tank into. Unfortunately the light posted above does not come in 30'' size required for a 20l but there are certainly lots of options out there.
Happy reefing!
To the OP you can always do a dedicated mantis shrimp tank...... just throwing an idea out there......

Ive been thinking about this myself and I was torn between setting one up one my desk and just have a nice little peacefull tank going on. with some zoas. I have a 20 long also and a t5 light that fights over it. I really wouldn't need a sump or protein skimmer?

The fixture in the link above will stretch out and fit a 20 gallon long, it's just that the bulbs will be a little short. (24") A 3" void on each side of the tank is not really going to make a difference though IMO. You'll probably want your rock at least 1" from the side glass anyways so you can get your mag float in there.

I would use it for throwing in anything you dont need from your DT to the 20. Or if you have a naughty fish send it to the "20L of shame."

I'm in the process of setting up a 29 gallon as an Invert QT tank. Same footprint as a 20 Long, just taller.

If you don't have a QT tank yet I'd use it for a fish QT. If you do, why not have a nice looking place to store inverts for a few weeks while you acclimate them, and make sure they're healthy, and not carrying fish diseases.
