Red face Fragged a Maxi Mini

Well since im preparing myself to frag some BTA's i figured i would try my hand at cutting a maxi mini anemone i have. Now this guy is really nice great purple color with green on the skirt. He was up my glass in the corner of it and let me tell ya not easy at all to pull off, really on there. even with credit card i had to be careful not to damage him. There was a long article in an issue of CORAL magazine that went on and on about how hardy these guys are. So i wanted to give it a shot. I had water set aside with some isodine to help him out still and was amazed how fast they try and heal themselves. I even used drunk drawer scissors for this. I will be getting some better scalpels for the next time i do it for sure. Anyways thought i would share and show you progress. As hard as he was to take off the glass i might be selling them off, really cool nem though.

here is a minute or 2 after the cut. already curling up

about 5 min or more after cutting, i kept removing the water and adding new iodine water to it.

and about 15 minutes later i put them back in the tank with the flow turned way down.

and about 25 min in the tank

I cant believe how fast they closed themselves up. I will update for sure.

Well this morning one piece looks to be completely healed and back to normal size and on the glass. The other piece is still the same as the last pic. One side didn't cut as nice as the other one and got squashed a bit in the process but I still expect it to recover. And I'm sure I'll have something for the auction.

still no progress on one of the 2 halfs, still looks good but the same as when fragged, the other one is back to normal pretty much. I did frag a different maxi mini and both halfs look to be doing great. this was today.

Well one of them hasnt really recovered, i might take him out of the tank, and the other one looks back to normal fully. So lesson learned, they are much thicker and tough in texture than you think, so dont use scissors. even though an article i read said you could. Guess he had better scissors .

I also fraged another one and both sides look to have recovered, a long sharp knife with a curve to it seems to be the best bet. Then so se saw that from one end to the other is the best way. Dont cut back n forth. Ill post pics later.

I would of recommended a surgical knife....it would have cut like butter.

I was gonna get one or a new exacto blade, but i didnt want to make several cuts or move the blade back n forth, but yes that probably would have been better anyways.

We live and learn...that is what this site is about....we tell each other the good and the bad. That way we all dont make the same mistakes.
