Which rock is better?
Alright so im looking to buy rock for my 75 and i am trying to decide between Marco, BRS reef saver and the rock from reefcleaners. The Pukani from BRS is a little pricey for me. which of these rocks are more porous and easier to aquascape? Also any opinions on which looks better when set up.

One thing to keep in mind with the Pukani is you have to buy less. I bought 100lbs for my 120g, I only used about 70 and that included around 20lbs that's in my sump.
For a 75g you'd have a hard time fitting 50lbs in it and as far as porosity and awesome shapes you can't beat the Pukani |

I'm a Marco man myself, but the reef saver is a great choice as well. The nice thing with the Marco rock is you can order a little of their live rock too and seed your tank.

The BRS reef saver rock looks practically identical to the Marco rocks fyi. That has been my experience at least. Whichever has the lowest price is the one I'd go with =).

marco is already cured, and zero (to very little) leaching.

I am in the same boat in deciding between Macro or Reef Saver. Do any of you have pictures of your tanks that show Macro or Reef Saver? Thanks

I am also in that boat interesting that the ReefRocks price is 20% less or in my case a savings of about $45 on 100 lbs. Decisions, decisions.

I double that you buy way less pukani. I bought 120 lbs for a 120 gallon and got maybe 1/2 in the display and it's more than enough. It's great looking rock, easy to aqua scape, easily shaped and cut with a hacksaw.. You won't be dissapointed

I agree that the pukani rock is also a very good choice, but I did not choose it because of the "leaching" of phosphates that some others have experienced. The BRS reef saver and Marco rocks are VERY clean from what I have heard and experienced. I personally went with 100% dry BRS reef saver rock and I have never experienced any leaching what so ever. My tank has always been very clean (0 nitrates, 0.00-0.01 phosphates hanna checker). I never even experienced any diatoms or any algae issues during the cycle (tank is around 9 months now and filled with SPS)!

I was in the same boat and i ordered 50 lbs from marco and 50 lbs from reefcleaners and after i had them both they look identical. i would have to guess they came from the same exact place.
I put all 100 lbs into a 55 gallon brute and started to cure them I had very marginal PO leaching. after a few weeks and a few water changes it stopped registering on my test kits reefcleaners was the cheaper of the two when i ordered $105 shipped for 50 lbs i think |

I love the look of pukani, but ordered marco because it's a great price and clean rock.
I put 50lbs in a 75gallon and felt like it was plenty. Especially after adding about 5lbs live rock to help get things going. |

puakani is imo great rock, its easy to work with you can chisel out some cave and cut the rock so that its nice and level on the tank bottom. Its very porous, probably the most porous of all the rock I've seen so you will certainly need less than any other. I only used about 55lbs in my 75 and its working great.
The one drawback is that you will indeed leach phosphates for some time. I unfortunately didn't do my research on the pukani rock and only recently found out about the leaching. The longest I've seen is 6months of leaching. others have used seaklear or some other kind of pool chemical to remove the phosphates from the rock before putting them in the tank. in hind sight I wish I had done the same. but if you are willing to do that then I think you would be very pleased with the look and diversity the pukani can give you.

i have both pukani and reef rocks. i also have some lace rock from reef rocks.
here are some pics of all 3 . i unfortunately had to have shoulder surgery before i could finish the tank, so i cant comment on phosphate leaching. the first 2 pics are pukani, the 3rd is reef rocks, and the 4th is the lace rock.

I 100% agree. It's no more than any of the dry rock when you figure in how porous it is. A ton of bang for the buck and absolutely gorgeous rock.
