New 10 gal tank

Hey everyone. I just started a 10 gal tank yesterday I am down grading from a 75 gal that I failed at pretty bad lol. Not letting it stop me tho. I only have one fish left from the 75. Just looking for input on what I should add to the for equipment, lighting, filtration ( currently running a aqua 110 a lil over kill but dose the job) looking to see what I can run in there for the best filtration. And most of all live stock thanks guys. Will post pics soon

what happened with the 75 gallon? keeping the 10 stable is going to be some serious work, so if you are thinking going to a smaller tank will be easier it will actually be a bit tougher.

you're pretty limited with live stock also, best bet will be a goby/shrimp combo.

I put brass in my plumping and any fish I bought got ich from a week to 2 after and dying. I'm going to revamp the 75 but want to get back in to the swing of it with a 10 and just have a few live stock things to put into the 75. I treated it with coppers back in January ( the 75) and never done anything elas with it so I have done no water changes or treatment to get the copper out. Cause I havent had the money for it. So I want to have the 10 up and going while I revamp the 75. And get it stable again then have the 10 as a hospital tank. For new fish.

I had a 10 gallon about 8 years ago. I had a PC light over it not sure one wattage.
  • yellow watchman goby
  • fish i dare not tell
  • pistol shrimp

zoas
mushrooms
torch coral
leather coral

It was a beautiful tank and incredibly successful

I just got rock for the one i plan on starting this weekend. So i will check back here to see your setup.

My old one only had a HOB filter, heater and i can't even remember if i had a powerhead or not...i assume i must have...

(basically i used the 10g setup you can get at walmart)

I ran a 3g off-the-shelf package with a small clown and a single blue damsel (plus some LR and a snail) for years with only filter and water changes. Definitely don't overfeed and I would suggest your hob filter has a bio-wheel.

I would not get a clownfish. There are many, many other small fish to choose from. You will get bored with a clownfish.
Personally, I'd either make this an invert tank with maxi mini carpet anemones ( like my 5g. You can check my build Simple Invert Tank in the nano forum for an idea. ) Or, I'd make it a venomous fish tank with a Leaf fish or two, and/ or other small scorps. But, the scorpions will eat any fish and shrimp that can fit into their big mouths ( like anglers, only not so extreme ). You could keep corals with the scorps.

You should get a refractometer. Much more accurate than a hydrometer.
The Tomato Clown will outgrow the 10g, unfortunately. Also, with him in there, you won't be able to have any other fish... Tomatoes are very aggressive.
Do you have a Photobucket account? You'll want one to post pictures. When you upload a pic to PB, click or scroll over the picture, and click the white slot that says "Direct Link". Then, click the little square with two mountains above the RC reply window. Paste the link there (right click), then click Go Advanced to see if it worked.
Looking forward to pix.
