Way to save my zoa's
So I had a lil cyano issue a few weeks ago and one morning i saw some cyano covering my zoa's.. Well since than they have been cyano free except they always seem closed up and are not to happy looking.. Is there anything i can do to save them..?? Ph, Nitrate, Nitrite, Salinity, Ca, and Alk, are all in check and never fluctuate, and my tank is 30 gallon nano.. And I use T5 white/actinics on a 12 hr actinic cycle, 8 hr white light cycle and moon lights on 24/7.. Thanks in advance..

here's a video so u can get a better idea of what I mean.. I have green zoa's with neon centers and they were fully blossomed before that cyano breakout and now they always stay shut except for like 3-4 of the heads..

Zoos like the tank a little on the dirty side. They'll open up more if there are some nutrients in the water so just give it a few days. Are you dosing iodine?

There is nothing you can really do specifically for the zoas. You just need to make sure that your overall water quality is good. After that it is up to the zoas. I've had zoas that have been closed up for months that came back 100% when they thought the time was right. Cant explain why as I never changed anything in my tank.

I don't dose iodine only cuz I haven't read much about it yet but I've saw a few peeps here and there pro and con to it.. Anybody have any specific input on that, I'm gonna read up on it as well..
Thanks.. |

As long as you perform regular water changes, you shouldn't need to dose iodine or trace elements.
Have you ruled out zoa-eating nudibranches, or maybe asterina starfish? |

Your tank may be too clean now. I had a few colonies close up for a couple of weeks when I dosed to bring my nutrients down. I've since up'd my feeding big time, now everything has opened completely. Not one polyp closed on eight colonies. They seem to like it a little dirty, as someone mentioned above.
