Instant clam death ... how come?
Yesterday I bought an ORA maxima clam, I drip acclimated it then placed it low in the tank so I could light acclimate it later, this was all about 1 hour before lights out. This morning I woke up to find the clam on the substrate completely empty of all flesh. My inhabitants are:
Tang Firefish Mandarin Catalina Goby Purple Dotyback Canary Goby 6 or so hermits 2 blood red shrimps Serpent star I can only guess that something killed and ate it. Any guesses? How would I find out? Thanks for your help |

Thats really weird. Maybe theres a mega worm in your tank. Heard of that happening. Usually a Clam will show signs of stress before death.

Hmmm, nothing on your list screams "Clam Eater." How big are your hermit crabs?
Is is possible that the clam just did not survive the stress of shipment and acclimation and that your cleanup crew got rid of the remains quickly. |
