Coraline + Purple = Good. Coraline + Green = Ugly

How do i get coraline to grow Purple instead of green?

My rocks are covered with a green Coraline . It looks like algae but it can only be scraped off.

I've tried scraping purple off some smaller rocks i got from my LFS but so far just green..everywhere...

Any suggestions.

I don't know what my Calc is at since I only keep zoas and a few leather as of right now.

I had to use a knife to get it off like the Purple from the small rock im trying to use to seed.

Like i removed a rock and tried picking at it with my fingernails and it did nothing

Green coralline algae always seems to grow first. Once it has setup a base layer of sorts, purples and reds will start to grow over them. Of course the purple corallines really appreciate a good calcium and alkalinity dosing regime. Even your zoathids and leathers will appreciate this. Look into two part dosing or kalkwasser and give it some time. The purples will grow, and then you'll hate them as much as the green.

the green sounds like calcareous algae. that's good (and sorta ugly if its not coralline). coralline will eventually over compete for it and the coralline will take over (green will turn to purple etc). keep your nutrients exported. i have a mixture of green calcareous and purple coralline in my tank atm.
