Tank Temps

I am running my LSP tank temps in the 83.5-84.0 degree because I am trying to entice my Darwin Clowns to spawn. So far everything in the tank LPS wise looks good, but wondered what damage I might be causing the corals, if any. I have some Mexican Turbo's and some blue legs beside the Darwins, so no other fish.

Thoughts?

Higher temps usually mean higher metabolism which means fish and inverts will feed more often. IME if everything is already acclimated to that temperature you should not be causing any harm.

Also, IME there are many factors other than temperature that will affect clown spawning. I would try feeding them live black worms and make sure they feel comfortable in the tank (plenty of space, good water quality, no other clownfish in the tank, no harassing fish in the tank, etc)

Thank you Ganjero,

They are the only fish in the tank, water numbers are quality required for the corals.

Phos 0
Nitrate 0
Calc 460
Alk 7.5
Mag 1350
PH 8.1 (read on AC3 Controller)
Temp 83.5-84

They also have a clay pot they live in (same size and style the previous breeder used).

The temp was increased over a week long period from 79 to the current level.

Thanks for the tip on the food.

Thanks

Justin

Wow this is very interesting. never heard of this before. Does the higher temp have any effect on algea growth?

Not meaning to high jack your thread.

I would love to see how the breeding goes and maybe get an answer to my question as the clowns breed.

Darwin Clowns (Darwin AUS), so I am told, spawn in 84 degree water. The previous MBI rated breeder spawned them in 84 degrees. Said when he dropped the temp, no spawn, raised it back, they spawned.

No algal growth associated .... yet....

The female is about 4" the male 2.5(ish). This is them in the 6" diameter pot. They get angry if I run the magfloat next to the pot so I don't do it there, so the pick is a bit fuzzy.

As long as you dont have any deep water or cold water corals there should not be any damage, you might see slower coral growth from those that are out of the norm. One thing to watch for is since you are already running on the edge of hot, if something happens and you tanks heat up more you might be in trouble.

The temp is of no concern, and the acclimation may have been a little fast but as long as the LPS aren't unhappy it will be fine. 84 is not hot and is more in line with normal summer reef temps, I would not worry until it gets up past 86, then I would try and keep it from getting any higher. I hope the clowns do breed for you and the fry survive, that would be an awesome thing.
