Best Tank / RODI Brands

Based on some other posts, it looks like these two questions are like opening Pandora's box. Based on my room, I need a corner tank of some sort, preferably around 50 gallons. I've been looking at a Aqueon corner bow, but was curious if anyone knew of any other good brand that have corner tanks. I'd actually prefer more like a pentagon or angular tank than a bow, or even a square.

For the RODI, I've been looking at Spectrapure. I've heard some say the filters are finer. Obviously this would make some difference, but is it worth it compared to some others? I'm looking more for long term cost than short term savings.

For the tank Aqueon is good so is Perfecto/Marineland. Don't know a thing about spectapure, most rodi systems are good. Just get a tds meter. Im using a BRS 5 stage plus for a few months now. So far so good

SpectraPure is based in the Phoenix area where we have exceptionally hard water (575+ TDS out of the tap--on a good day). Their 5-stage MaxCap system is rock solid and produces 0 TDS water. If they can handle Phoenix water, they can handle anything!

It sounds like you are looking for a tank that is a more unusual shape than most people make. I'd be more concerned about getting the shape you really want than the manufacturer. I've had a variety of used tanks, never worried about who made them and never had a problem with any of them that I couldn't deal with (like drilling or making overflows).

I have a spectrapure RO/DI and I'm quite happy with it. But I don't use many of their filters. Filters and membranes are all basic sizes and interchangable. Most membranes are made by 1 of 2 manufacturers anyway, so just use what gets you to the water quality you want. I buy from Air, Water & Ice in Florida and they have been pretty good to me. BFS is a sponsor here on RC and they have been good as well.

I am in the market for a RODI as well and have heard good things about ebay RODI's. You can get a 5 stage/100gpd for about $100. Add a tds meter and you are good-to-go... As stated by Ron the filters and membranes are interchangeable for the most part.

If anyone has any experience with ebay RODI's, let us know your experience with them.

I've taken in other people's used RO systems, clean them up, install new filters and a new membrane then add a DI at the end, and they work just fine. All the hardware is pretty much just hardward to hold the filters and membranes and DI resin that really do all the work. And they all are capable of getting TDS down to zero. It's not rocket surgery or brain science... say what?

I am looking into vertex puratek simply for the reason that it claims (and posts here on reeefcentral) claim is much more efficient then BRS or other systems

most of the ebay rodi units IMO are junk, I started out with one when I started the hobby and a year later the housings cracked and flooded the basement will never go their again.

stick with one of our sponsers, they won't steer you wrong. Buckeyefieldsupply has some good ones for a decent price

I haven't seen that unit before. It looks pretty good and has some nice features... but then for over $300 it better have some nice extras! It's almost double what I paid for my used Spectrapure with new guts and a booster pump. But if you want compact and easy, and price isn't an issue, this looks like a real good unit.
