Flow rates for 75 gallon tank
Im upgrading (finally) to a 75 from 55, i have a cpr cs90 overflow (600pgh) with a via aqua 2300 pump (600 gph) with 2.5 ft head pressure. I built a 30 gallon long sump. about 100lbs of live rock and 80lbs of sand.
i am keeping softies and some lps, do you think the flow is good enough? What should ideal flow be? 10x 20x display? |

I am curious as well...as far I can tell from what I have read 3x in an hour is min ANYTHING above is better.....also how would I increase my water flow if I bought a stronger pump....isn't the drain in my tank only able to "drain" so much?
I'm unsure of my pump specs....trying to contact seller for any info they may still have...no labels on things...only know skimmer is a Coralife model from pics |

I think the confusing part is overflow rate as compared to circulation in your DT.
The overflow rate or turnover rate for sump/DT should be 4-5x total volume of the tank. So if your sump hold 20 gallons and your display is 40 (just for ease of numbers), your overflwo rate should be between 240-300 gph. Now your DT circulation rate should be between 10-20x. For softies and LPS 10-15x the volume would be fine. |
