Buying 29gallon Bio Cube this weekend
Just have a quick question. The tank is coming with 25 lbs of live rock, is there anything I need to do with this live rock to make sure no critters are in them? Would I have to put the live rock in warm water first to be sure there are none?
Also, I've heard that I do not need the bio balls since there is a good amount of live rock in the tank. Is this true? Thanks! |

Tampadude, yes rid yourself of the bioballs as the liverock is sufficient for biological filtration. As for the live rock being rinsed out for bad hitchikers, im not sure on that one? Me personally i would just put it in the display tank. Hope this helps. . .and before i forget.

Thanks Chaotic. I've heard good reviews on putting a media rack in one of the chambers instead of the bio balls. I was going to purchase one from Ebay. Is this recommended?

If you worried about hitchikers, do a fresh water dip with some coralRX. Fresh water as in filter RO/DI water. That should remove whatever pest. Besides that, toss it in and watch it grow. I've never dipped my rocks, whatever comes with them... comes with them. You'll be surprised at what comes, some bad, some good.

I would leave the rock as it is personally.
The media baskets are a great addtion to help organize your chamber and get the most out of it.

Why pay 40 some odd bucks for a media basked when you can make one out of eggcrate and zip ties. $12 plus cost of zip ties. I did that for my biocube and worked better than Intanks would.

Ive seen some people roll their rock in salt, rinse it off then let it dry. Soak in ro and add to tank. That would kill everything.

Yeah, why buy a Cadillac when you can just get a Ford Focus. Having seen both kind in action, there is no way an eggcrate media basket works as efficient as the inTank media basket. Intank's Media Baskets forces the flow through the media with solid walls. Eggcrate will allow the water to flow around it. This is a good case of cheaper is not always better. |

I wouldnt buy a cadillac or ford. Both american made so they both suck lol
I guarantee you the way i build mine was perfect and better than intanks. All you need to understand is how the water flows in the chamber. \ Mine help macro algae and purigen and chemipure to where the water would flow through the chemical filtration in order to get to chamber 3. So once again....yes there is a way...you just have to know what you are doing. |
