Leaving dead plate monti in tank
When my tank crashed I lost all of my monti's. They are beautifully white now and I would like to put them back in just because they are pretty. Is this a good thing to do? If so, do I need to soak them in anything first? Thanks, Bubba

They will be ugly brown in no time flat.
Get some drift wood. Bleach the corals. Hot glue them to the drift wood and put them somewhere you can enjoy them.

They wont stay white, algae will form and will just endup looking like live rock in the shape of a monti. But to answer your questions, as long as the montis have not had anything dangerous to the the tank on them after you removed them you could just put them backin, or boil them first for piece of mind even. Why did they die?

You want to bleach them and let them dry. .5 cup per 5 gallons of water is usually enough bleach.
I would not boil anything reef related, ever.

I already have the drift wood and I will go with that. I am not sure why but I lost 50% of my coral and 7 fish. Had everything from my 75 moved into a new 125 except the sand. Everything was beautiful for 2 weeks then the first coral that went was my hammer, then the monti's, puls xenia and the mushrooms lived but are really small and lost most of their color. The new tank started to cycle, and the fish that were alive all got ick, my dt became my new qt. now the diatom era has set in. If it weren't a brand new 125 I would have just given up. Haven't even sold the 75 yet. Thanks for asking. Bubba

Dang that sucks. Time will heal the wounds.
Its hard to determine what caused it but sometimes when things start to spiral down they go quick. I know how you feel.

yeah that does suck, and bleaching it probably would be the better option over boiling.

Thank you for your information and help. Now, it is back to cleaning brown dust off my tank and changing filter socks. Bubba
