macro algae growing in tank
what is the best way to get rid of unknown macro algae growing in tank near corals and it is spreading i have already started dosing vodka added a second skimmer and have a bunch of turbo snails about 30 dwarf hermits 20 hermits and a few emerald crabs in my 115 gallon reef tank reduced my lighting period as well what else should i do?????

Probably need to identify it first so you'll know how to best attack it. Post up a pic of it, someone on here is bound to know what it is.

Starve the algae. Take out what it is thriving on and that algae will die off easily and for good. I run a low nutrient tank and the SPS are happy but the Algae, not so happy (I have none and can barely grow cheato when I've tried in the past). Vodka is good for nitrates but isn't always the silver bullet for phosphates. Most vodka dosers have a second regimin to address the phosphates fully. Algae thrive on phosphates in particular. That said, a tank with high phosphates almost always has plenty of other nutrients floating around in the water column well.
