Angry I am sick to my stomach! Please help!

I came home to a major disaster today! There is a huge crack in the back of my 170 and about 1/2 the water leaked out. I've moved the fish to a 75 but did lose one that I've had for years :'(

Can I have the broken glass replaced or do I have to get a new tank?

First off sorry never a good thing to come home to. I think it is just about every reefers nightmare to come home to a leaking tank. How old is the tank? If it were me I would be getting a new tank but you might be able to shop around and see what it would cost to replace. Good luck!

Sorry to hear...it can be replaced, but would probably be quicker/easier/safer to replace the tank...new or used

I would go with a new tank unless you know what caused the crack.

As others stated, it's probably best to get a new tank. Is the tank on a level surface? How old is it? I would feel uncomfortable getting it fixed, that's a lot of water to have that happen again.

Go new. Do you know what caused the crack? Hope it was not a mantis that you did not know about

cost more to fix it then just buy new or find a good deal on CL .. might find something a lil bigger at a super low price .. or just have a new tank built ..

I dunno, the glass on anything above 150G is pretty darn thick ...I'm thinking anything smaller than a 8ball needs to impact it pretty hard

I'd bet on either a wood stand shifting/swelling issue or some other weight/imbalance issue

...that said (and as mentioned) I'd thoroughly investigate the causes before slapping another tank on the old stand and in the same spot

Every aspect of this tank was level. Floor was also reinforced. I found this one on CL which is where I believe the mistake was made. Not CL itself, but when I arrived where the tank was, they had the tank standing on end. Yes! 6ft straight up. My two theories are the first owner did some damage storing it that wat or that was too much stress on one side.

Lesson painfully learned.
