film on glass?

Ok gang I have a question, I am in my first week of cycling. Right now my parameters are ph 8.2, ammonia .5, 0 nitrite, 0 nitrate. I have a 38g tank. 40lb of sand and 25lbs of live rock. I am struggling with cloudy water, it appears that there is a cloudy film on the glass. What can I use to clean this off? Is this just something the cuc will take care of? Most importantly is this normal for a new tank or did I screw something up already?

You can run some carbon to clear the water but it's pretty normal to experience some cloudiness during the cycle. To clean the glass just purchase a mag-float glass cleaner.

Sounds pretty normal, due to algae bloom or reminants of initial sand bed introduction. You will want to get some type of algae scraper/pad for the glass. Mag-floats are very common and easy to use.

"Cloudiness" right out of the gate sounds like the aftermath of a sandstorm. It's probably not even algae.

Regardless, no worries. Scrape off the glass and run some filter floss. Other than that, let your tank do its thing.

+1 on the mag float. I agree that it's most likely residue from the sand. Personally, I'd wait on the carbon until the cycle is over. Just my opinion. And if you're not sure on the magfloat now you will probably wish you had it post cycle when the diatoms arrive.

Thanks to all for the mag float idea. I picked one up and now the glass is super clear!
