Question How to frag certain corals.

So i was curious about fragging. i tried to frag a kenya a while back. i took a brand new clean razor and cut a decent size branch from it. when i did that a ton of stuff poured out of it (i know they fill with water to expand so it must have been that). but it shrunk down to almost nothing once i cut it. then 2 weeks later it died. this was a very large kenya tree. i cut it out of water and glued the frag out of water. what did i do wrong?

I want to frag some silver xenia i think it is. the lfs mixed it up with pulsing so i bought it. it has tripled in size but to frag it i would has to cut down the center of the stalk vertically. would this kill it? How should i go about this?

I also want to frag some finger leather but ever since the kenya i am nervous about taking a razor to anything.

Any help would be appreciated!!

thanks!

Rubber bands are good for this. The constriction is slow and allows it to heal as you split. Most of these corals will drop frags when they get large enough. In the case of the xenia, as it moves it will leave tissue behind that will quickly develop into colonies.

Do some searches, many threads on this topic here on rc and elsewhere.
