Aqualife HO T5
I have a 55g in my living room and I'm running the AquaLife HO T5 fixture. I love the lights so far except the fans were insanely loud. I'm not sure if anyone else has this issue, but I pulled apart the fixture and replaced the fans.
The stock fans are 29cfm and ~34dB if I remember correctly. I used two (2) of these SilenX EFX case fans as replacements, which are 25cfm at 12dB. The only issue is that the AquaLife OEM fans use a very unusual Molex connector. I actually contacted Molex and they weren't even sure where the connector came from that they use. So I ended up cannibalizing the fans that were in the fixture. You just have to cut the male ends off both the new fan and the OEM fan and swap them. I used a cheap soldering iron and then wrapped them in electrical tape. I am happy to report that the fixture is basically silent now. The only down side is that now my return pump seems loud. Now I just need to figure out how to quiet that thing down. If anyone wants any more information, please let me know and I can tell you which wires need to be spliced. |
