New Alveopora Coral
I just bought an Alveopora "Daisy Coral" and wanted to get some suggestions on it's care. I have read that they are a little difficult to keep but wanted to find out from others who have had them what they would suggest. So far I have read the following:
- Spot Feed at least weekly. (Started Kent Micro Vert 2x a week) - Low-Med Flow (How can you tell what it likes? Currently tucked next to a rock and gets about a low/med alternating flow. Was out in front on the sand but I moved it because it just looked like way too much flow and was bending a lot) - Low-Med Light. (Tucked slightly under a shelf. About 1/2 direct light 1/2 under shelf on bottom of tank. 29g JBJ Nano w/105w CF) - Likes High Nutrients in the water? (Just got an Aquamaxx HOB-1 started a few days ago. Currently running about 22lbs of LR and 30lbs LS, Fluval 204 w/ChemiPure Elite, Phosban and Purigen. Back filter has Sponge, Filter Floss and Carbon. Do weekly 3g WC, Param's are 0,0,0,0 currently. Ca at 480, Alk at 9dkh, PH at 8.4, Temp at 78-81 Daily.) Thanks for any suggestions anyone might have. |

If that it what your reading I would stick with those suggestions.
My suggestions would be to mix up what you spot feed them, and try feeding something a little more meaty like chopped mysis and or silversides, if the polyps can catch and hold it they can eat it. Also with the flow just because its bending over a lot doesn't necessarily mean it's to much, it's behavior would be a better gauge. If the polyps retract after after moving around a lot I would suspect it may be flow, but it they are fully expanded then I wouldn't worry about the flow. Same suggestion for the light, if the polyps retract then thats a sign that it may be stressed and getting to much light, And Compact Flourescents are likely not to much. Your nutrient levels sound to be nearly perfect, which is contrary to what you describe they like, but our goal for reef tanks are to maintain low nutrient levels. So that is why supplemental feeding is needed to maintain them.
