Bubble Magus NAC5E

I have just ordered a Bubble Magus NAC5E from the New Zealand agent of BM.

Ill post pics as soon as it arrives

Incase anyone is wondering it cost NZD$239 plus $19.90 shipping.

I thought the shipping was a little steep but I cant complain overall.

Its going on a 9 Gallon nano (for the moment) but it soon will be going onto a 30 Gallon tank that I'm working on repairing.

Lets see how it goes!

That skimmer is waay over sized for either of those tanks. I thought I was doing something, it looked cool but performance was poor. This skimmer is rated for like 150 gallons.

To boot after a week the pump broke

Wow really? Do you have any pics of this skimmer on your tank? Or is this just more of your useless garble. The skimmer is actually rated for 80-135 G's and anyone who buys skimmers knows you don't go by that. Would I put it ona 9G no, but a 30 or 40 would be fine. They have great customer service as well, so I'm sure they took care of your pump right? Look around on the net, I see it pulls some pretty nasty stuff for an HOB, but because you say it's a piece of crap!, well it must be true!To the OP nice skimmer! Bubble magus makes nice stuff.

And no BM won't reply to my emails. There is a thread I posted in it. And no those manufacturers are now rating skimmers correctly. It's way too large for a 30. Would work on a 75ish tank. This skimmer is basically between a NAC 5 and 7. Waay too big to keep a stable head on this small a tank

So from what I understand your online vendor screwed you and refused to replace the pump. It says you contacted them not bubble magus. You had the skimmer for four days, and yes the pump broke, from either user error or there's, who really knows. So you really have no solid review. And you have sps dominant tank, which makes you pretty awesome? Oh and we'll assume that because my name, that I've never owned anything but nano tanks. No apology here, I'll go ahead and move on now.

I contacted them and they would not replace. I have sent many emails to bubble magus without a single reply. I repaired the pump on my own dime and it still is too much for this little tank. Currently running on the GF's nano. Im going to sell it and either get a tunze 9002 or just run skimmerless.
The skimmer is just too big for the tank. IF you cant keep a stable head of foam they work poorly. If you read the thread you will see some recommending running bio pellets, heavil;y stocking or overfeeding to even get it to skim. I have owned at least 10 skimmers and ran them on all sorts of tanks for over a decade. The OP would have much better results with a smaller skimmer. Its not just my 2 cents, it is the opinion of the majority. There is a thread on the first couple pages about having an over sized skimmer. Once you get too oversized your will get poor results. I could put a RK2 on my large tank, use it as a septic system for my home and it would pull little to no skim mate.

Just my "useless garble" from a guy who has no experience in this hobby SMH

Really? Would you dump a can of food a day to get it to skim properly?

Everyone's tank is different, but sure I'd dump food in there just to make it work! Great idea

Sounds good! I agree you have experience in the hobby, everyone does. Thank you for the schooling. Arrogant reefer, what a fitting title. I think we can just agree that your right to end the argument

Woah guys

Lets not forget that this is a hobby and should be fun!

Too much agro ends up on these forums.

I purchased the skimmer for my 70 gal system that I am building, and I thought that it might have to have been pressed into service on my 9gal nano as my Aqua Medic HOB was having huge issues, I pulled it apart, modified it and now its skimming stable, pulling slightly wet at the moment as I was without decent skimming for almost a week! I agree that the NAC5E was not at all suited to a 9gal tank!

The skimmer has arrived, very well packed, not a scratch on it, excellent workmanship all over the product, I received the red and blue coloured skimmer, not the nice white that some people have but thats not so bad as once my full system is up and running it will be sitting under the tank in the sump area as a HOB in the sump, helping to reduce overall heat load to the tank and giving more sump space for experimentation.

Ill post pics later this week!

The red is old stock. They only make the white now. Still identical. I wanted the red and that's what I ordered but it arrived white. The dealer explained the white was all they produce now.

How much room do you need behind the tank?

My jbj 29 hqi nano cube is 5 1/4 inches ( just measured)for it to fit. The fit is pretty close to snug. You might could do a lil less. It did not sit flush before the skimmer because of hoses for the chiller and wiring. I did have to drain it half way and move it about 3 inches further out than originally setup

I have this skimmer on my 34g. I like it a lot except for the shitty pump it comes with. Imo it is way oversized for a 9g tank and probably wont work properly. It is a very powerful skimmer and holds a a couple gallons of water

I purchased the skimmer to go on a 150gallon that I'm slowly putting together, at the time of posting I was having serious issues with my aqua medic HOB on my 9 gal (now 13gallon) tank, which has since been fixed with liberal quantities of silicone and now its skimming like a champ so the NAC5E never got a chance to get hooked up to that tank.

I can't wait to get my new bigger tank up and running so I can try this sucker out! I'm comfortable that if I do have any issues with it the agent that I bought it off will sort things out as they have a decent track record
