I have always been told they will last longer? In warehouses where there are racks for storing items the MH are dimmed to about 30% and then when a motion sensor picks up the forklift it goes to 100%. A few years ago on my 158 I had a dimmable 175w ballast in the center of 2 - 250w MH and the lamps lasted just as long. I cannot remember the name (Solar?) but it would take 2 hours to ramp up and then two hours to ramp down.
