Smile Remote deep sandbed in sump

Ok so i have been reading about remote deep sandbeds in 5 gallon buckets and came up with my own style. I had room in my sump where a 5 gallon bucket would fit. My sump is 8-9" deep with water consistently. So i cut the 5 gallon bucket 6" tall and used 30 lbs sugarfine agagonite sand to make a 5 1/2 deep sand bed which gives me 2-3" of water flow over top and no need for the extra pumps and pipes. And it is still easy to remove from the system by simply pulling out the bucket. One question i have is can i plant my mangroves in this? I dont know exactly how plants export oxygen and just didnt want them to hinder this anerobic zone of the dsb to not convert the nitrate to gas.. Any one plant mangroves in dsb? Any concerns i should be aware of?
