Bulkhead question

I just moved my new 90g into the house today and started plumbing to get water in it this weekend. Quick question.....the overflow and return (drilled on bottom for a corner overflow) jist press into the bulkhead. I can easily give it a little twist and pull and they pop right out. Are they supposed to be like this? Or do I silicone them in to prevent them from loosening up? The directions don't say anything about it. All they say is to hand tighten the bulkheads, then go another 1/4 turn and thats it.

Edit: it's a Marineland 90 if that makes any difference....

I just pressed and twisted mine in. Five years ago. They're still fine.

Depends on your bulkheads. If they are slip (no threads) you should glue in the bottom pipes that go into the sump. Since the ones inside the overflow don't need to be water tight I just push them in and can remove them later. The seal is at the bulkhead to glass point, not so under the bulkhead on the sump side. Everything there needs to be glued with solvent cement. If you have threaded bulkheads you need to get a male adaptor for the pipe. Three wraps of teflon tape of on the male threads and then you hand tighten and go 1/2 turn more. Should be good!

Seth, be sure to understand, Fatman is talking about the connections on the outside of the glass. Do not glue the connections on the inside of the overflow. If they ever have to be removed to catch a fish that got in the overflow or just for cleaning, you'll have to remove the bulkheads and replace them and most likely the piping. The connections inside the overflow should just be pushed and twisted.
