sick anemone
I recently got an anemone finding out I should have after I brought it home and did stone research. My tank is only a little over 2 months old.
My anemone has been deflated for every since I got it once in a while it will inflat but not to its full size and it''ll around around tumble and land top down so I move it to a rock near by and he''ll stick for an hour then float around some more and overtime he number he deflat some more really scares me And when night comes and my.lights are off he deflats really small to the size of a quarter with his mouth stick out all swollen is this normal I been worrying for the pass few days I got him for about 5 days and I have seen him healthy like the first day I got him I have coral reef lightings and cyclone skimmer and a filter system All my numbers are good I check it weekly but overtime I do a water change some diatom would appear because I use tap water but the guy from petco said it's ok and he knows what I have he says the lighting is enough but I am getting a ro real soon and how do I get pictures up |

There are so many factors at work here. I.e. water parameters, flow, lighting. I would refrain from using tap water from now on and try to get an RO/DI unit installed in your house or go to a local water store. Also a general rule of thumb is to wait until your tank is established to put anything like an anemone in there (About a year). Anemones are a more advanced type of organism to keep. I don't know how long you have been in the hobby but anemones are usually reserved for more experienced reefers.

Without specifics on your tank - size, lighting, filtration, ACTUAL water parameters (numbers please), type of anmeone, it is impossible to give any real meaningful advise. If at all possible, take the poor creature back to the store you got it, even if you have to just give it to them. The direction you (and it) are headed in now will almost certainly mean death for the anemone. When anemones die, they often take the tank with them, so be prepared for that as well.

A rule of thumb is one would want to wait for a year or so before adding one to a tank, although it depends on a number of factors. Either way, it's not a beginner animal. Test kits are important, but keep in mind there are many things going on in your tank that are not tested for.
