calcium reactor media refill
I was curious to see what people are doing when the reactor media has dissolved. I am currently using ARM course (the large pieces) . The reactor guide (Korallin) stated that once your level has come down about 3 inches to throw the remaining out and refill it with new media. Is this what reefers are doing? Or are you just adding more media on top of the old to get it back to the full level? I'm asking because I have no signs of the current media turning to mush. It's been running about 6 months.
Thanks in advance |

When it is time to replace media, I use that as a time to do reactor maintenance. I remove what is left, clean and refill. The media that is left I put on top, it is usually fragile and is used up quickly. I have been using the Reborn Media for a few years now and just switched out to the Tropic Eden Media, which I like better but PA is no longer carrying.

There will be a certain amount of undissolved precipatates, dust and detritus in the bottom of the reactor after time. These are the only things that need to removed and rinsed away. |
