Introducing Reef Central's Reefer of the Month (ROTM) SushiGirl, September 2012
We are pleased to announce the very first Reef Central Reefer of the Month (ROTM). The votes have been counted and the first person to be honored for this award is SushiGirl! Congratulations and thanks to SushiGirl for being our first recipient of this honor!
The description for this honor is as follows: In appreciation and honor of the members that regularly contribute to our discussion forums, we would like to acknowledge a Reefer each month that stands out as exceptional for their outstanding service to others. This person will be selected by the Reef Central Staff, based on their willingness to help others in response to questions, giving advice, and overall disposition. The honoree will be given the Reef Central ROTM tag, that will appear above their avatar and will follow them for one year after being awarded. This will not only demonstrate to others that you have been chosen as a trustworthy source of information, but also as a positive role model for others to emulate. Additionally, we are pleased to upgrade your membership to "premium" for one year and you will be entered in a raffle along with the other recipients each year to win a special prize to be determined. We look forward to honoring one person, each month, by highlighting them on the Reef Central homepage. This will include a recent photograph of yourself, or your avatar if you prefer not to show your actual face, along with what you love about the hobby of reef keeping and why you have chosen Reef Central to be your home. Each month the face and paragraph of the ROTM will change, but you can forever hold the honor of knowing that you were one of the chosen few to have earned this title and our respect as a member in great standing. Best Regards, The RC Staff

This from SushiGirl:
I got started in the reefing hobby in 2000 with a 3 gallon Eclipse tank given to me for my birthday. For the first 2 weeks I only had live sand in there and I was fascinated by the little critters in it, watching the sand for hours. I then was given a couple of pieces of live rock and WOW! More critters! I had no clue what any of it was, but boy was I hooked! I started looking online to try to figure out what things were and ordering some corals, and darned if more critters didn't come with the corals! I was absolutely glued to that tiny tank. I quickly acquired 2 more tanks, so during 2000 to 2004 I had the 3 gallon reef, a 10 gallon FOWLR with one damsel and a huge hermit, and a 38 gallon reef. I joined ReefCentral in 2002 and learned a lot about these tiny creatures that fascinated me by reading other posts. I started to help others ID them as I learned. I also "learned" that a 3 gallon reef couldn't be done haha! The term "nano tank" was just beginning to be tossed around at that time. Interesting how times change! I moved in January of 2005 and couldn't get my boyfriend interested in reef tanks, so for 6 1/2 years I had no tanks. I missed it all the time and was always dragging him to public aquariums & trying to get him excited about the hobby by showing him pictures of critters I'd taken of my old tanks. In October of 2010 he found a deal on a 55 reef ready & asked me if I wanted it -- of course I said yes! We didn't add livestock for 3 months, but by then he was already hooked because, thankfully, he also is fascinated by the tiny life that appears seemingly from nowhere. We currently have the 55 softy/LPS tank (pictured) plus a 20L reef tank we set up in July with a Yasha goby and candy cane pistol pair added in August. The 20L is to be a frag grow out tank for our 140 that's currently being very slowly set up. We also set up a 10 gallon QT tank for corals and fish in August to keep the 20L and 140 as pest-free as possible. Our entire dining area will soon be full of fish tanks! My passion is still hitchhikers. I haven't lost that fascination & I try to share what I've learned with others as much as possible here. I still learn new things all the time on this forum, and enjoy helping panicked new people learn what that weird thing in their tank is! There's still plenty I don't know, and I find myself stumped sometimes, but I still enjoy searching for these critters I've never seen before & helping others ID them.
