Help Me Set Up My Tank

I have had a saltwater tank for almost five years now. I am currently haveing to downgrade tanks from a 75 gallon to a 28 gallon JBJ nano cube. I currently have a problem with green hair algea in my 75 gallon tank and I want to set up my new tank right. I am planning on taking some of the live sand and live rocks out of my 75 gallon and putting them in the 28 gallon. I curently have some zoos, an anemone ,and a green brain coral. The only fish I have are a clarkii clown and a yellow tail damsel. Please give me some suggestons on how to set up this new tank so I can avoid problems. How many powerheads would you recomend? I have been looking at some of the Koralia Nano's. Thank you.

I have a 28 jbj and bought a koralia 425 and 296 and liked neither of them. got a good deal on a mp10 fell in love. small tanks are sensitive to the extra pump heat so keep what you can outside. I use the stock pumps and the mp10 and have softies and lps and everything is happy too. I am new to the hobby but asked around and got the same response Im sharing now with you. Good luck

Honestly I think your hair algae battle will continue even in the new tank unless you can be sure to keep your parameters in check. By using some of the rock and sand from the old tank you run a high risk of reintroducing it into your new one. Best plan is to scrub the crap out of it when you take it out of the 75 to get as much off as possible, then keep a close eye out. I would say to move the rock in the new tank fist and let that go a few days to make sure the new tank doesn't cycle (with your bio-load and using seeded rock and sand, I don't think it'll be an issue, but suggest being safe anyway), then move the fish and critters over. The Clarkii, how big is she? I know they'll get up to 6" and might feel the pinch in a 29 gallon.

It might also be worth a shot looking into some of the tests folks have done with acclimating a molly to saltwater for the purpose of eating hair algae.

Forgot to mention about the MP10 suggestion...... awesome power head! You can find the non wireless versions used for about $150 ( I know that sounds kinda high, but it's worth it). You'll love playing with all the different modes, and it'll provide plenty of flow for your tank (up to 1500gph).

Thanks for the advice. I thought the same thing about the hair algea. I am hoping I can control it better in the small tank with my cleaner crew and with water changes. I hate to get rid of all of my rock and sand becasue of the zoos and other things I have attached to them. What other suggestions do you you have on powerheads and on controlling the hair algea?

I forgot to mention about the clown. I have had it for close to two years now and it is only about 1.5"-2" long.

I just waited mine out. Nothing I did helped. It eventually died out. I think I had a lot of organic matter on my rock that contributed along with overfeeding. Now that those two are under control, my alga has all but died out. Took about a year.

An MP10 are very expensive. I really do not want to spend that much on one. What about some of the Koralia Nano's
