DSB Article and discussion
I came across this article in another thread here:
http://www.ronshimek.com/deep_sand_beds.html Take a minute and read it... I want to get some opinions and all... I have all the items in it. (sand burrowing worms) and lots of other hits from this article... I have in the middle (away from glass) a section where when the PH is off center it blows away the sand and you can see hundreds of these guys. I leave them be but just getting some input from YOU. My want/intent is to get some people started talking about how their bed is and what they have seen or do with it (regular stirring or CUC) Thanks.

I have a DSB in my system for the last six years. It's about 6" deep, sugar sized oolite, and full of infauna and can see the tube worm towers when the sand is disturbed. I don't touch it, as far as my stirring it up, etc. but, I do have a couple of conch's, some cerith and nassaraius vibrex snails that are always churning up the upper layers of the sand.

I had a 4" DSB in my old 60 gallon breeder that lasted about 9 years until I woke up one morning and found a crack running straight down the middle of the tank. (Sep 18, 2008) That DSB would have been almost 15 years old today if that hadn't happened. No doubt in my mind. The author you mentioned, I kind of attribute all my success to the articles he's written. He used to have a forum on this site if I'm not mistaken. Good stuff IMO. There's definitely a method to the madness...
Good luck... |
