Ductless Air Conditioning system

Has anyone ever installed one themselves? My portable AC unit in my fish room broke and I am thinking about putting one of these systems in. If you have installed one, what system did you put in?

Unless of course the condenser is located in a separate location.

I use this one and it is so quiet you can not even hear it run, inside or outside. Only about 600 watts to run it and it not only cools, but dehumidifies most excellently:

Thanks David. Are you using this in a fish room or another part of the house? The link you provided looks like you still need the install kit correct?

My last AC unit ran nonstop for five years and then needed to be replaced. The main thing is to size the unit to your room based on the size of the room and the heat you want to remove. Take into consideration the equipment running and the ambient room temperature from the saltwater.

My first one was 220, the new one is 110.

Mine is specifically for my fishroom. I got the lineset, the drain tube, and the wire.

Yeah my fish room is about 200sq ft but it also has my hot water heater and boiler for heating the house. So its nice and warm during the winter months but during the summer...it hit 87 yesterday when outside temps were no higher than 70. my tank temps hit 81.5 and i just dont like that. I sleep better when the tank temps are under 78. I got a quote for $1800 installed for a 9k btu unit and I thought that was crazy. I am seeing that the cost of the installation is more than the equipment itself.

Do some real thinking on the drain line, Ive been in HVAC for 20 years and have had the most trouble out of the drain system. the problem is that there is a TRAP inside the unit to help with the drain. that trap cloggs up from slush so make sure you keep an eye on it every spring, or just go ahead and clean each season.
The systems themsselfs are pretty good though, they are called Mini splits. Mitsubishi makes one also.

Thanks for the info....since HVAC is your business is this something a fairly handy person can do? My brother in-law is an electrician so I got that part covered.

My Mitsubishi from AC Wholesalers was $1190 with free shipping to my door. The accessories I got (50ft line set, drain tube and wire) were another $200 and change. I have a couple friends that are HVAC guys and they did the install for free because they are good guys, I would see if you have an HVAC guy in your club that can hook it up for you. There are some technicalities to the install and pressurizing it.

I use a Mistu Mr. Slim MUYGE09NA in our office, which is a converted garage, and I can tell you it is a highly efficient, very quiet and awesome unit. It is both heat and a/c and is simple to operate. Even the outdoor part is extremely quiet. For a fishroom it would be a win/win.

The condenser is outside just like a HVAC system but the split system has a head unit in the room you want to cool, a small line goes to the head unit, that unit is visible in the room kinda of like a unit in a hotel.

You will need an HVAC guy yo get the charge right (refrigerant level) as far as operating, the basic install is just wire for high voltage/low voltage, Copper lines for refrigerant and drain lines. The copper lines have forged flare nuts on them so there is no welding involved. A vacumm will need to be pulled on the copper lines (suction and Discharge Line) before the system is opend up. found this quick, HTH http://ramsond.com/proddetail.php?pr...2#quickinstall

Mitsubishis are really nice. I do hvac also and this is what all the chase banks ask for. They use them for there data rooms. If you are gonna install it your self make sure that the flare sits nice and flat on the units. Also i recommened you use thread lock on tge flare fiting nuts. Thats one of the major leak spots on those units. 120v and 220v function the same, one is not better than rhe other. Just depends on what voltage is available.

Thanks for everyones feed back. I have a hvac guy coming by next week to look at my fish room and give me a price. He's a friend of a friend and said he will get me the equipment at cost. He said that once I got it mounted and wired up he will come up to do the rest with line connections, charging/suction and all of those good things. So that will save me some money on labor.
