Question Heat of the Apex Jr.

Heya all,

Was wondering if anyone has had any problems with overheating problems with Apex Jr.? Mine runs pretty friggen hot, I have set it on a large heatsink and albeit, not the best setup, but it works to cool it down alittle bit, atleast to my satisfaction.

However, I would like to mount this thing on a shelving unit, without having to cut out a spot and install a heatsink underneath it. I'm sure they are made to withstand their conditions of the casing design and run at that temperature.

So just wondering if anyone has experienced a malfunction due to overheating?? Or do I just let it run that hot and have an extra place to cook an egg in the morning well I wake up to ma tank??

Thanks,
Sheldon.

There's no doubt the controllers and energy bars put out some heat. There's transformers inside each of them. But other than the occasional problem with bad batches of chips that have heat related issues, I'm not aware of units failing due to overheating.

If you put your modules in a closed space, you'll want to vent it somehow. I use a $5 case fan and it works just fine.

I don't recall seeing anyone else mention high temp of a Jr before. If its really hot to the touch and not just warm, I suggest you touch base with Neptune support.

I have empirically tested my Jr., and I can confirm with certainly that an egg does, in fact, not fry on it.

If yours does work for this purpose, best to be in contact with Neptune support.

Nice, Thanks for the replies all, so long as it's capable of running this hot, I'm not to concerned then.

Awesome product, defiantly impressed with the capabilities. Being from Canada tho, I would love to see Celsius support, unless I'm just not seeing the option/checkbox on the web interface??

Thanks,
Sheldon.

The temp scale setting is one of those things that is not (yet at least) available in the web pages. It can be changed via the display menus. Those without a display can get Neptune support to change it for you.

Awesome, Thanks much for that info Russ. I guess if I knew the command line I could do it via telnet myself, but it seems to be a pretty proprietary command line structure. I'll get in touch with Support.

Thanks Again,
Sheldon.
