Need skimmed for 40 gallon
Im in the market for a skimmer for my 40 breeder
Tank is lightly stocked: pair of clowns. I will eventually get more fish. I will always keep it on the lighter side. This is going to be an Sps tank with bio pellets. The two skimmers I have my eye on are: Aquamaxx AM100 Octopus 170 needle wheel. $250 is the highest I want to go. Is the AM100 skimmer to much muscle? Will the octopus 170 do just as well on this setup? |

I can just add that most people seem to happy with Reef Octopus skimmers. If it's rated for your size tank, it should be good based on what you said you wanted to keep. I have a hang-on right now and it works great.....I know that probably doesn't answer your question in depth, but it's some input

Thanks for all the responses. I really like the build quality of the Warner Marines the best. I also have done business with Jon. I am currently running a warner marine H1 hang on the back skimmer and that thing is a beast.
But I need a in sump skimmer. Do you think that I will noticce a big differnce between the Octopus NW 110 and the Auamax AM100 and the Warner Marine MF121? Are both these skimmer worth the price over the Octo for this setup? |

I don't own an aquamax am100 but do own a nwb 110 and a mf 121. The octo works pretty good but pales in comparison to the mf 121. The octo needed a good bio load to perform but the mf 121 performs no matter what the bio load. I run my mf 121 without the silencer and wide open at 8.5 inches.
The only other skimmer I've used that performed as good as the Warner is my tunze 6410 master doc but it was way too loud.
